Today marks week one of my recovery in my adenoidectomy that Dr Achtem did not do- but was suppose. I went in to my GP 15yrs ago and was told I’d need to have my adenoids removed, she referred me to Dr Achtem who gave me a consultation and confirmed we were going to remove my adenoids. Surgery day (Feb 2013) comes and not only was my experience waking up from my 1st time surgery awful in KGH but I find out this doctor didn’t even remove my adenoids, he removed my tonsils instead, something that was NEVER discussed. Never an issue with my tonsils, never strep throat, never tonsillitis however constant sinus infections and ear infections. I was absolutely gulled, he said when he got in there my adenoids weren’t enlarged (yes they were) but took my tonsils out because they looked swollen (which they werent, they were naturally a little bigger). I was also a 22yr old who came from neglect trauma when it happened and had no idea but I would have pushed for a malpractice suit had he caught me a bit older. I continued to have many sinus and ear infections afterwards and only recently decided my medical trauma wasn’t going to outweigh the solutions I needed.

Now going into my current ENT to have my adenoids removed, he also confirmed with a head CT that I’d be getting a Septoplasty at the same time. Because of the medical trauma Dr Achtem caused me, I had so much anxiety going into surgery again and informed anyone who would listen to please make sure my adenoids came out too.

I am so disappointed in the results I had seeing Dr Achtem and reading his current reviews, I see nothing has changed in the last 15yrs of his practice. I hope this review serves as a warning to others not to trust this doctor once you’re under his knife.
