Incompetent and Unprofessional – How Is This Covered by OHIP?
I was referred to this doctor at the Gynecologist doctor after giving birth to twins via C-section. Since my regular physician had retired, I was sent here for post-operative care. I hesitate to even call this person a doctor — the experience I had was shocking and unacceptable.
During my appointment, she didn’t perform any medical examination, didn’t do a pap smear, and didn’t offer any meaningful support. The only thing she did was take my blood pressure, and then she spent the rest of the visit browsing the internet, Googling answers to my questions — as if I couldn’t have done that myself at home.
At one point, she even said to me: “Do you know where OHIP money comes from? OHIP pays me for my profession.” But what profession is she referring to? She didn’t actually provide any care.
I want to know how much OHIP was billed for this 15-minute visit, where the only “service” provided was checking my blood pressure and Googling things. From what I understand, OHIP pays for this type of visit, so I seriously question what exactly was billed and whether it was appropriate. This felt like a complete misuse of public healthcare funds — charging OHIP for absolutely nothing. It’s not just unprofessional; it’s unethical.
I was referred to this doctor by my family physician for a routine six-month postpartum check-up, as my original OB-GYN had retired. This was my first appointment with her after giving birth to twins, and unfortunately, the experience was deeply disappointing.
From the beginning, the doctor was dismissive. When I asked about doing a Pap smear, she refused, stating that if anything came back abnormal, she would not have the time or responsibility to follow up. This was very concerning to hear from a medical professional.
When I asked about pregnancy prevention options, instead of offering guidance, she Googled information in front of me and suggested I could research and choose a method on my own. She gave no clear recommendations or explanations about possible side effects or what would be appropriate in my case.
I asked why no physical examination was being done, and she responded that it wasn’t her job. The only thing she did was take my blood pressure—something I could have done at a pharmacy. When I pressed further, she asked me, “Where did you come from?” which I found inappropriate and disrespectful.
I left the appointment feeling confused, unsupported, and disrespected. I had no answers, no guidance, and no proper postpartum assessment. I went back to my family doctor, who apologized for the referral and assured me he would no longer send patients to her.
This experience left me feeling lost about my health after childbirth. I still need proper care, and I am now trying to find a doctor who will actually help me through this important stage.
I do not recommend this doctor to anyone, especially new mothers looking for compassionate and competent postpartum care.
I had an appointment yesterday with Dr. Nushin Khushbakht, a gynecologist at Gahena College, after waiting six months, and I left feeling extremely disappointed and frustrated. She was rude, dismissive, and unprofessional. From the moment I started asking questions about my postnatal care — such as a Pap smear or what’s normal six months after giving birth to twins — she repeatedly told me, “It’s not my job” and “I’m a professional,” as if that meant she didn’t have to explain or help me.
When I asked why she wouldn’t perform a Pap smear, she told me that if the result comes back abnormal, she cannot follow up on it — and because she’s a “professional,” she said she is not the one responsible for handling abnormalities. I found this very confusing and disappointing. As a gynecologist, I expected her to be the right person to handle exactly this type of situation.
The only thing she did during the entire visit was take my blood pressure — something I could have easily done myself at a pharmacy. I didn’t wait six months just to have my blood pressure checked. For the rest of the appointment, she either told me it wasn’t her job to answer my questions or she was searching on Google.
When I asked how to prevent pregnancy, she looked it up online in front of me, then said there are “so many options,” and told me to do my own research and choose one. I was shocked and felt completely unsupported. I went to a gynecologist for medical guidance, and instead I was told to figure it out myself.
I was referred to Dr. Khushbakht by my family doctor for specialized care, only to be told to go back to my family doctor again. I feel like I’m being bounced around from one place to another, waiting months in between, and still getting no clear answers or proper help.
She barely looked at me during the visit. Her back was to me most of the time, as she stayed focused on her computer screen. I didn’t feel seen, heard, or respected. When I asked why she wasn’t answering my questions, she responded by asking where I was from — which felt completely inappropriate and irrelevant to my concerns.
This experience left me feeling helpless, disrespected, and deeply disappointed. Women deserve better care — especially after childbirth — and we shouldn’t be made to feel like we’re a burden for asking important medical questions. I expected professional care, but what I received was neglect and dismissal.
