I had an appointment with this person, Sugganth Suppiah, after eight long years with the UHN and being passed around from one provider to another within this same health care organization.
He was arrogant, condescending and medically gaslit me within the first 30 seconds of the visit, possibly a new world record.
There was no physical assessment completed nor history taken by this man.
As well, I had read what was in my UHN EHR file from prior neurosurgery consultants and, it was also utterly inaccurate. ( I had back surgery in 2010 after an injury) however, the information in my chart about the surgery and my outcome , was WRONG as well.
I’m not sure how he could have had any idea about providing care with such fractured, incomplete and inaccurate medical information but there we were! It was surreal that he was so clueless and put ZERO effort into the appointment Unbelievable! He condescended to me with confidence of narcissist who was utterly wrong.
He was too busy telling me “ I’m not saying you don’t have pain” , to actually listen to what I was saying to him.
The whole visit probably only lasted a few minutes as I stood up to leave when he said something that DID happen , COULD NOT happen. His words were“ that’s not how that works” Ummmmhhh. Actually, yes it did, buddy.
Therefore, 0/10 would NOT recommend. He was NOT knowledgeable about my medical history and/ or my condition and/ or my journey and he openly admitted to only reviewing my file (including my inaccurate EMR and final of multiple MRIs) within the last few minutes before I walked in. How could that be considered competent care??? I’m not sure.
Eight long years of waiting, suffering and testing culminated into 30 seconds of his nonsensical conclusion.
He thought he could just interject his “ generic wisdom” of how to manage my condition or what to do with my body. 🙄
(For some context I am a Critical Care RN and have been practicing in medicine my whole career. I have spent most of those years studying, learning and engaging in therapeutic interventions in order to optimize my body’s functioning). All the things…
Anyway, I could NOT spend any more of my precious time and resources on his lack lustre care, so I left.
Neurosurgical department – fast, on-time.
Felt very good about my first impression with Dr Suganth Suppiah and his perspectives. I did a lot of research and was curious how he would navigate the situation and found his response was different and better.
He ensured the meeting was about working as a team together to approach situation and did not come across pushing an opinion – though sometimes that might be necessary.
He presented options and some additional considerations that showed continual care beyond just the immediate need.
I’m very pleased with Toronto Western.
It was worth the wait to meet a Surgeon who specialized in nerve sheeth tumours as well as a team dedicated to advancing research.
Dr Suppiah is an amazing doctor. He gave me enough time, listened to me and was assuring. I strongly recommend him !
